Film Based Research Project: Working Title: "From the Third Eye" (2009)

The film aims to highlight the issues and concerns of male-to-female transgender people in India through discussions, interviews, studies and even performing arts like dance and music. It plans to visualize not just the struggles and sufferings of transgender persons, but also mirror their tenacity to survive against all odds. Inspired largely by the personal experiences of a SAATHII staffer in Calcutta, the film will tell the story of several transgender heroes across India. Apart from serving as a sensitization and planning tool in the hands of social workers, programme planners and policy makers, the film hopes also to motivate transgender individuals to overcome self-stigma and oppressive social barriers that prevent them from realizing their true potential.
