HIV Treatment Literacy Material for MSM and Transgender Populations in India
Development of HIV Treatment Literacy Modules for NGOs or CBOs Implementing Targeted Interventions for Men Who Have Sex with Men and Male-to-Female Transgender People (2009)
Funded by World Health Organization, New Delhi
The project aims to enhance access to accurate information on HIV care, support, treatment as well as positive prevention for the growing numbers of MSM and male-to-female transgender people living with HIV in India. The immediate objective is to create a body of print material that can be used to educate and train MSM and transgender people living with HIV, health care workers, peer educators and their trainers on HIV treatment literacy specific to MSM and transgender populations. This will address a serious gap in current HIV treatment literacy efforts in India.
State AIDS Control Societies, STI/HIV/AIDS targeted interventions, and their beneficiaries and peer educators, in some of the states (Manipur, Tamil Nadu) with high HIV prevalence in MSM and transgender populations are being involved as project partners. Inputs from medical and community experts and rigorous field testing are part of the material development processes.
