HIV/AIDS District Level Planning

SAATHII assisted district-level administrators in developing HIV/AIDS response strategic plan for 9 districts in Tamilnadu (Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Trichy, Perambalur, Erode, Dharmapuri and Nilgiris). The district-level planning highlighted district-specific scenarios, gaps and needs, enabling appropriate strategies to be developed for the respective districts.

Partners:

SAATHII facilitated the plan development on behalf of Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) through a USAID contract to Futures group.

Project areas are represented by black spots in the District map of Tamil Nadu:

Commencement of the Project: August 2005.

Goals:

The overall goal of District-Level Planning is to stabilize HIV prevalence in the district by preventing new infections, and to provide care and support to enhance the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and reduce socio-economic impact of the epidemic.

Recommendations from district-specific plans helped in development of Tamil Nadu's state-level plans, and were in alignment with the recommendations of the National AIDS Control Organization's third National AIDS Control Plan (NACP-III).

Outcome:

Comprehensive HIV/AIDS district level strategic plans were devised for all the nine districts and were handed over to TNSACS for incorporation into state level plans.
