Hyderabad Office > Prevention of Mother to Child Transfer

Since October 2006, SAATHII has been providing technical, administrative and logistical support for the PMTCT consortium funded by the Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation in India. This is a continuation of previous work by SAATHII's founder Dr. Sai Subhasree Raghavan, who has served as Director for the PMTCT consortium since its inception in 2002-2003.

The EGPAF PMTCT program is India's largest Private-NGO program, and the second largest national PMTCT program in India. Each grantee works with 4-25 sites each, making a total of 87 sites in hospital and NGO settings. The implementing partners in the consortium are:

  • ASHA, Karnataka
  • Bapuji Child Health Institute, Karnataka
  • Father Muller Hospital, Karnataka
  • Asha Kirana Charitable Trust, Karnataka
  • SPYM, Karnataka
  • Freedom Foundation, Karnataka
  • Freedom Foundation, Andhra Pradesh
  • PRAYAS, Maharashtra
  • Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu

Some of the outputs of the program to date are given below:

Women accessed ANC 197,078
Women received counseling 94 %
Women tested for HIV 92 %
Women received results 90%
Women tested positive 0.95 % (1,604)
Women received AZT/NVP 73-78% (515 NVP,
655 AZT)
