COPE complements the efforts of Svetana, SAATHII's private sector PPTCT initiative, in five of the 14 Svetana states: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka. It does so by placing a cadre of outreach staff called PPP Field Coordinators (FCs) to promote uptake of PPTCT services in districts where the number of positive pregnant women and mother-baby pairs is high. COPE is being implemented in partnership with Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM) in Karnataka, Prayas-Pune in six districts of Maharashtra, and state units of SAATHII in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and the non-Prayas districts of Maharashtra.
The project focuses on 1068 HIV positive pregnant women as per the current Svetana coverage, a pre-Svetana cohort of 1000 and an expected 500 newly diagnosed women during Oct 15 –Mar 16 period. A total of 60% of the Svetana cohort is located in the 32 Svetana districts where COPE is being implement. Project COPE works towards enhancing ART initiation for women testing positive, and completion of early infant diagnosis.
